Quietly making its mark, the Ford Escape stands as the second most popular vehicle in the Ford lineup, and that's something worth highlighting. It's a vehicle I particularly love for several reasons. The American manufacturer's SUV offers a vast and diverse range, an enticing price range, and is certainly one of the most comfortable and convenient vehicles in its category. Not to mention, it is quite advanced in terms of technology. Ironically, I myself owned a Ford Escape in recent years and unfortunately dealt with a lemon. Fortunately, this did not change my overall appreciation for the model. The Escape offers a driving experience that simply can't be found elsewhere.
There isn't much in terms of new features for 2024, as the model underwent a significant mid-cycle refresh last year. In addition to a new design, the lineup of versions has been completely revamped. This indicates that Ford has moved on, and I dare to believe that the popularity of the Escape will be positively impacted.
Lineup and Prices
For 2024, the American manufacturer's SUV lineup consists of 6 different models. First, there is the Active version at the beginning of the lineup. However, unlike in the past, it doesn't feel like a base model. This is a very good thing and a significant advantage with a starting price of $33,744. Next up is the ST-Line version, which has a more interesting look and a few improvements for $35,244. The ST-Line SELECT is next with a price of $40,344. For luxury, there is the Platinum version at $42,774. Ford offers a third ST-Line version with the Elite designation for an even more sporty design at $44,274. Finally, the Plug-in Hybrid version is at the top of the range with a starting price of $47,694. Note that all versions between the Escape Active and the plug-in hybrid can be paired with the hybrid powertrain.
Category and Competition
The Ford Escape operates in the category where competition is the fiercest in the market. No, it's not the most popular model, but in my opinion, it is by far the most interesting model in the segment.

Design and Technologies
What I love most about the Ford Escape is its European flair. It's one of the few vehicles in its category that hasn't gone for the boxy, straight lines, or flashy design elements. The Escape's design is simple and elegant.
The interior of the 2024 Ford Escape is highly enjoyable. Comfort is abundant, and the American manufacturer's SUV offers a multitude of accommodating features. It's one of the few vehicles in its segment that allows us to recline the rear seats backward. Even if it's only slightly, it's the kind of detail that can make all the difference on a long drive. The interior finish is of good quality and very pleasant to the touch. It's a vehicle that benefits from excellent sound insulation.
Ford has done a great job with technology. The digital dashboard is absolutely stunning, and the infotainment system is also very user-friendly. We wouldn't expect anything less from a Ford vehicle, as the brand is renowned for its SYNC system.
Performance
The 2024 Ford Escape offers four mechanical options, starting with a small 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This engine delivers 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. Moving on to the classic 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. While the Ford Escape may not have a performance version, this engine remains one of the most dynamic in the category. If you opt for a hybrid engine, you'll get a combination of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total power of 192 horsepower. This combination allows the American manufacturer's SUV to achieve an average consumption of 6.0 L/100 km. Finally, there's the plug-in hybrid version that essentially offers the same powertrain with slightly higher power (210 horsepower) and a better capacity battery, providing enough energy for a 60-kilometer all-electric range.
Weak Points
I don't understand why all-wheel drive is not offered on the plug-in hybrid version. The price quickly rises between certain versions.
Strengths
It's a versatile vehicle. Its design is simple and elegant, and its interior offers comfort and convenience. The American manufacturer's SUV offers cutting-edge technologies and very interesting mechanical options.
Signature Element
What makes the Escape so popular at Ford is its balance and the diversity of its lineup.
Final Thoughts
The latest redesign of the Ford Escape is particularly successful, and I really like the new concept of the lineup with the ST-Line versions. Now, the only thing truly missing from the American manufacturer's SUV is a true performance ST version.
